Bangkok Muay Thai Gyms

What then makes an awesome gym to join/visit for someone wanting to train Muay Thai in Bangkok?

I had to have a think about this. Obviously I am a huge fan of all the Muay Thai gyms that I visit. I could well just have ended up listing each one I have ever been to!!!

I have made this list by focusing on the following;

  • Quality of facility
  • Experience of instruction
  • Amount of training available to a member or visiting athlete
  • Level of partners available
  • History of success within Muay Thai competition
  • And of course, my own personal experience

After much deliberation, here are 10 that I recommend. Ideal for those wanting a phenomenal Bangkok based Muay Thai gym to visit in 2024;

Petchyindee Kingdom

Petchyindee is a name synonymous with excellent Muay Thai in Thailand.

Not only do they have their fantastic training facility in Bangkok. They also run regular promotions at some of the best stadiums in the city.

And, they produce their own range of amazing equipment, merchandise and apparel.

Petchyindee Kingdom is located at 36/36 Charan Sanitwong 34 Alley, Arun Amarin, Bangkok Noi, Bangkok 10700.  This is West of the main centre and hub of Bangkok.  Onsite, they offer an outstanding gym featuring two boxing rings, a variety of training spaces and a modern fitness suite.  This is complimented by a wide range of training class times and private lessons available to visiting students or fighters.

The training areas themselves are located on the first floor.  With the two floors above that dedicated to their hotel accommodation.  I have stayed in this personally and found both the facilities and staff to be excellent in every respect.  Petchyindee caters brilliantly for all.

On the ground floor next to reception, you will find a small but immaculate restaurant space.  Here, you can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Visiting for a one-off training session or wanting to stay for a year?  Either way, you will find what you are looking for here.  Be prepared to take your Muay Thai to the next level.

Resident coaches and talent are all of an exceptionally high standard.  Expect to rub shoulders with the likes of Petchmorakot Petchyindee, Petchdam Petchyindee, Capitan Petchyindee and many others at the gym.

I had my last visit and stay at Petchyindee organised by the amazing Muay Thai Holidays.  They took care of everything from the flights through to transfers and training packages.  I cannot recommend them enough!

Don't take my word for it though! Check Petchyindee Kingdom's website out today at www.petchyindee.com!  See for yourself why I have included this in my 10 of the best Bangkok Muay Thai Gyms list!  On it you will find further information on all their training, private lessons and accommodation options.

Sitsongpeenong Muaythai

Sitsongpeenong is a world class Muay Thai gym based in Bangkok.  It has been the main training location to visit by fighters across the globe for many years now.  Why?  Well, the facility is fantastic for a start.  The training areas are located on the first floor.  They include two full size boxing rings and a wide range of bags and equipment.

Their team of coaches though are really where they shine the most.  Each one is a hugely experienced fighter in their own right.  They also share a similar ethos of completely investing their time, energy and expertise into all those that visit to train.

Located to the East of Bangkok centre at 83 Chaloem Phrakiat Ratchakan Thi 9 Soi 34, Nong Bon, Prawet, Bangkok 10250, Sitsongpeenong is positioned away from the usual distractions of city living, without being too far away to visit.  A perfect place for those who really want to concentrate on their training.

The onsite accommodation is of a fantastic standard and is mainly located on the ground floor.  There is a brilliant snug, restaurant area where people come together to eat, relax and meet up outside of training.  The food is great and all of the staff are super helpful.

Fighters who call Sitsongpeenong their home include the truly phenomenal Glory Kickboxing champion, Lumpinee Stadium champion and ONE Championship signed über talent Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong.

Sitsongpeenong is really easy to visit for one-off sessions but I definitely think you will get the best out of this gym by going for anything from a few days to a few months for training.  Expect to walk away a whole different beast if you are able to commit some time here.

I had my last visit and stay at Sitsongpeenong organised by the amazing Muay Thai Holidays.  They took care of everything from the flights through to transfers and training packages.  I cannot recommend them enough!

Elite Fight Club

I have to say, Elite Fight Club definitely has the biggest and most modern training area on this list.  Innocuously located on the top floor of a multi storey building just outside the centre of Bangkok, this gym manages to mix old school coaching with ultra modern facilities.

A well sized, dedicated space for Muay Thai with an open plan balcony looking out over the city landscape is complimented by a Jiu Jitsu/MMA matted space, a huge strength and conditioning area, a stunning infinity style pool, a bar and cafe area, a vast changing area and a wide range of different classes scheduled on the timetable.

The coaching is high level and the team based their features none other than world renowned Muay Thai coach Trainer Gae and head coach Cedric Gautier, alongside resident über talents Jhoy, Boy and Alex.

Although they do not offer onsite accommodation at their 758/22 Waterford Diamond Tower Sukhumvit 30/1 Alley Khlong Tan, Khlong Toei, Bangkok 10110 location, there is plenty to choose from within easy travelling distance.

You are definitely going to be spoilt if you train here, everything about the gym is designed to meet whatever needs you may have as an athlete or fighter.  From the health conscious food and smoothies, through to the pool and outside space, you are not going to need to leave to find much outside of this facility.

I have been here (and its twin Elite Fight Club gym in Hua Hin) a few times now and am always impressed by what I see.  Having spoken to others on the mats there, I know a lot of people who visit end up returning time and time again.  What better recommendation do you need than that?

Elite Fight Club is easy to visit for one-off sessions and has a wide range of different training packages for those who want to train there for longer.

PK.Saenchai Muay Thai Gym

PK.Saenchai Muay Thai Gym is well known for the high level of fighters it produces.  Current Nak Muay standouts include the likes of Tawanchai, Muangthai and Onjgen Topic.  This globally renowned camp is located in the South of Bangkok, not far from the Chao Praya river.

A photo of the training facilities at one of the best Bangkok Muay Thai gyms in Thailand

Although a very traditional gym at heart, the facility here is both big and well utilised.  Its four boxing rings and many bags are constantly in use by the many fighters who train here.  You will find the camp entrance at 3713 31 Charoen Rat 7 Yeak 35 Alley, Bang Khlo, Bang Kho Laem, Bangkok 10120 is located on a very narrow street.

Those in the know, both in Thailand and overseas, know that this gym offers unparalleled coaching and a talent stacked training mat every day of the week.  A fighters gym, PK.Saenchai is not aimed at the tourist wanting to have a quick one-off taste of Muay Thai, it has been put together solely with the purpose of training champions.  As such, it is ideal for those wanting to take their training more seriously and fight regularly in the Bangkok stadiums.

There is no attached accommodation but it is within easy reach of Bangkok centre via taxi.  Those wanting a longer stay may be wise to research the longer term options nearer to the gym in order to cut down on costs and travel times.  Hiring a scooter is not a bad plan as long as you don’t mind driving in the often crazy Bangkok traffic.

I last visited PK.Saenchai to catch up and film with my good friend Ongjen Topic.  It is an extremely easy gym for me to recommend to you!  The trip I was on at the time, was organised by the amazing Muay Thai Holidays.  They took care of everything from the flights through to transfers and hotels.  I cannot recommend them enough!

F.A.Group Muay Thai

F.A.Group Muay Thai may well be the smallest gym in terms of floor space on this list, but what it lacks in size, it more than makes up for in quality.  Located North, not far from the main centre of Bangkok near Chatuchak park, this gym is very typical of a lot of traditional Thai gyms.

One elevated boxing ring with a small amount of training space next to it, this facility is open plan and street side on the road it is situated on.  Expect to see passersby glancing in as you train.  The coaching you will find at F.A.Group though is second to none.  A hugely experienced team have made this gym a go-to for numerous visiting Muay Thai practitioners and fighters for many years now.

Located at 270 Vibhavadi Rangsit 5 Alley, Lane 8, Chom Phon, Chatuchak, Bangkok 10900, you can expect to take part in two training sessions a day and an optional morning run should you visit.  The self proclaimed best Muaykao gym in Thailand favours a clinch and knee heavy fighting style.  As such, clinch and sparring are both regularly on the agenda after each training session.

There is a small dormitory that you can take advantage of should you choose to stay onsite for extended training camps.  Most visitors though tend to stay in one of the many nearby hotels or travel up from Bangkok centre.  This gym is great for everyone.  Whether complete novice or experienced athlete, you are sure to feel right at home here.  Many fighters train at F.A.Group as part of their fight camps.  Not only for the high level of coaching but also to train with the huge number of very talented Thai fighters who call this gym their home.

I visited F.A.Group to film when I was in Bangkok earlier on in the year.  I really enjoyed my time there!  The trip I was on at the time was organised by the amazing Muay Thai Holidays.  They took care of everything from the flights through to transfers and hotels.  I cannot recommend them enough!

Skarbowsky Gym BKK Jockygym

Although I have known about the world famous Jockygym in Bangkok for many years, it was my recent visit to Jean-Charles Skarbowsky and his fantastic gym in Paris, that steeled my resolve to visit when I was last in Bangkok.  The now Skarbowsky linked Thai gym is another very traditional addition to this list.  The facility’s one ring is surrounded by a number of bags and a variety of old school S&C equipment.

There is onsite accommodation located at the rear of the gym.  It is not huge but it is big enough to accommodate a small number of guests at any one time.  I personally loved visiting this gym when I was last in Bangkok.  There were a varied mix of people in attendance whilst I was there, including a number of both local and visiting athletes training together.

It is difficult to imagine many people visiting for a one-off session given where the gym is based in Bangkok.  However, it is clear that many people love training here and often stay within the area for long periods of time in order to enjoy the exceptional coaching on offer at their Thanon Pracha Rat Sai 1 Soi 38 (Soi Si Nam Nguean) 5/254 ,Bangsue, Bangkok location.

A friendly atmosphere and a love of receiving visitors ensure that whomever travels to train here will have an amazing time.  There are varying abilities on the mat, and each are well catered for by the different coaches resident at the gym.  The depth of experience within the trainers is obvious and they have a real passion for passing this knowledge on.

I visited Skarbowsky Gym BKK Jockygym to film when I was in Bangkok earlier on in the year.  As I mention above, I really enjoyed my time there!  I visited during a trip I was on, organised by the amazing Muay Thai Holidays.  They took care of everything from the flights through to transfers and hotels.  I cannot recommend them enough!

Jitti Gym Academy

Jitti Gym is a Muay Thai gym I had been looking forward to visit for many years prior to going for the first time.  I had heard lots about it and how great it was from some of the best Muay Thai coaches and fighters the UK has to offer.  People such as Richard Smith, Lisa Houghton-Smith, Liam Harrison and Jordan Watson have all spent many months visiting and training here over the past 2 decades.

That alone should tell you how fantastic a gym this is and just how exceptional the founder/head coach Jitti Danriram is.  Liam himself refers to Jitti as his “Thai” dad.  Located at 5 Soi Vibhavadi Rangsit 16, Din Daeng, Bangkok 10900, this gym is another on this list not situated far from Chatuchak park.  Easy enough to get to from central Bangkok, this gym is located roadside at a fairly busy crossroads.  The one large ring has a large matted space next to it with a small number of bags and S&C equipment.

There is a small number of onsite accommodation options available.  Each of which has A/C and is very reasonably priced.  In years gone by Jitti would mainly be filled with fighters looking for hard sparring, pad rounds and clinch work.  Nowadays, it is a lot more relaxed and you will often find a much wider mix of different ability levels in attendance.

A photo of two coaches demonstrating sparring drills at Jitti Gym Academy, one of the best Bangkok Muay Thai gyms in Thailand

Jitti himself is mainly retired now, although he does pop down for some training sessions with certain fighters on a ad hoc basis.  As a result, most of the coaching is done by the other resident trainers based there.  All of which are great individuals and fun to work with.  When I was on the mats, there were a couple of high level guys training alongside a larger group of less experienced individuals (albeit with different coaches).

It would be an easy gym to visit for a one-off training session, private lesson or extended stay as it is both conveniently located and a great base from which to explore the rest of Bangkok.

I visited Jitti Gym Academy to film when I was in Bangkok earlier on in the year.  I really enjoyed my time there!  This trip was organised by the amazing Muay Thai Holidays.  They took care of everything from the flights through to transfers and hotels.  I cannot recommend them enough!

Kiatphontip Gym

Unfortunately for me, I never got to visit Kiatphontip gym the last time I was in Bangkok.  Logistics and time ran away from me and I was not able to arrange a mutually convenient time to visit.  However, as I already know very well founder Rob Cox, head coach of Kiatphontip UK Jompop Kiatphontip and former long time camp attendee Greg Wootton, I am fairly up to speed with just how brilliant they are.

Located at 6 moo 2 Salathammasop, Thaweewattana, 10170 Bangkok, Kiatphontip is about 20 mins drive West from the centre.  Not as bustling a city landscape as you get further into the centre, this area has great greenery and countryside views as more of its backdrops.

A very traditionally laid out facility, the main ring is elevated and is the main feature of the space.  Surrounding this is a decent amount of mat space for pad work, clinch etc, a number of bags and some various S&C equipment.

The coaching is, as you might expect, second to none.  All of the trainers are hugely experienced and offer exceptional training in every area.  As a result, many of the UK’s leading Muay Thai gyms send both their fighters and coaches here to train on a regular basis.  The food is excellent (I don’t think Jompop would be happy if it were any other way..) and they are well known for their amazing hospitality when receiving visitors from other countries.

As mentioned above, my good friend and Muay Thai world champion Greg Wootton spent many a month here training on fight camps.  Given that he is one of the best fighters to have ever come out of the UK, this should tell you a lot about the value offered by visiting Kiatphontip for training.  No matter whether you are only going for a few days or going all in and staying for a year, you will gain valuable experience at this brilliant gym.

Don't take my word for it though!  Check Kiatphontip Gym's Facebook page out today to see for yourself why I have included this in my 10 of the best Bangkok Muay Thai Gyms you should visit in 2024 list and for further information on all their training, private lessons and extended fight camp options.

Khongsittha Muay Thai

I have been desperate to visit Khongsittha Muay Thai at 23 Sukhonthasawat Rd, Khwaeng Lat Phrao, Khet Lat Phrao, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10230 each time I have been to Thailand this year.  Unfortunately though, logistics and timings continue to go against me.  I am definitely putting that right the next time I am in Bangkok.

So, how I am featuring Khongsittha Muay Thai in this list if I have not personally been?  An easy question for me to answer.  Khongsittha is one of the true “super gyms” located in Bangkok.  A huge facility offering multiple rings, vast training spaces, endless amounts of bags and accompanying equipment.  It also offers both onsite accommodation and food to a really high standard.

They like those that visit to have an amazing experience as well as having access to phenomenal training.  As such, they provide regular excursions and work hard to ensure there is a community feel to their gym.  The timetable for training is fairly traditional and whether you visit from outside, or choose to stay onsite, you can expect to train twice a day (morning and afternoon) six days a week with their team of experienced coaches and trainers.

Khongsittha takes the traditional aspects of a Thai gym and marries it with the needs of modern visitors.  As a result, it is a really straightforward process booking with them to visit for a one off session or for a longer extended period of training.  Well known individuals within the Muay Thai and Martial Arts community including the likes of Sean Fagan and Jeff Chan have both been known to frequent this amazing facility.

I am definitely going to be a making a visit the next time I am in Bangkok!

Don't take my word for it though!  Check Khongsittha Muay Thai's website out today at www.kstmuaythai.com to see for yourself why I have included this in my 10 of the best Bangkok Muay Thai Gyms you should visit in 2024 list and for further information on all their training, private lessons and extended fight camp options.

Sitmonchai Gym

Although Sitmonchai appears last on this list, that does not mean I think of it least!  Sitmonchai Gym has an incredible heritage within Muay Thai and rightfully should feature in any article that talks about the best gyms in Bangkok.  It’s location at Thetsaban 12, Tha Maka, Tha Maka District, Kanchanaburi 71120 however makes it the gym most far away from Bangkok centre on this list (think 2-3 hours drive from Bangkok centre dependent on traffic).

Don’t let that put you off though.  Sitmonchai Gym has not become the name it is through just having casual visitors drop in for one-off training sessions and then disappearing.  It is a true camp in the sense that all those who go have made the commitment to be there for the sole purpose of training.

Well known for producing fighters of an exceptional standard, their stand outs include the likes of Pornsanae Sitmonchai, Thepnimit Sitmonchai and Yodkhunpon Sitmonchai.  The facility itself is located in the middle of amazing greenery and has a real jungle feel to it.  Traditionally laid out, the multiple rings are surrounded by a decent amount of mat space, bags and S&C equipment.

Onsite accommodation is available.  Both it, and the food on offer, is not expensive and of great quality.  However, it is within the coaching on offer that this gym really shines.  Kru Dam, who has been there since it opened, is just one of the many truly brilliant trainers featured in their resident coaching team.

Just one look at the reviews for Sitmonchai anywhere on the internet will tell you all you need to know.  A phenomenal gym which makes family and community the heart of everything that it does.  Everyone who goes falls in love with it.  I have spoken to Abi, their amazing foreign visitor liaison, on multiple occasions this year and it is always a pleasure talking to her.  It is on my must visit list when I next head back to Bangkok, that’s for sure!!

Don't take my word for it though!  Check Sitmonchai Gym's website out today at www.sitmonchai.com to see for yourself why I have included this in my 10 of the best Bangkok Muay Thai Gyms you should visit in 2024 list and for further information on all their training, private lessons and extended fight camp options.

It was actually pretty hard not to make this list containing my thoughts on 10 of the best Bangkok Muay Thai Gyms to visit bigger as there were a good few others that could have easily been on it! What do you think of these gyms? Are there any others that you think I should have included???
