I am hugely fortunate that I get to travel extensively around the world visiting phenomenal Martial Arts gyms, dojos and academies on a regular basis. World's Best Martial Arts Super Gyms

What makes a gym, a "Martial Arts super gym", I hear you ask!

That is a good question. I have formulated this list taking into account things such as size/quality of facility, depth of coaching, competitive success, length of time open, area they are located in and much more. Just as importantly, I have also used my own personal experiences from travelling and spending time with some of the world's leading martial arts coaches, athletes and fighters.

Now that we have that out of the way, let's begin!

Diaz Combat Sports

Where do I begin with Diaz Combat Sports? Well, first of all, it is possibly the single Martial Arts super gym that I have spent the most time at over recent years. Not for no reason either. This Vancouver based gym is one of the most stunning and impressive looking facilities on this list.

Owner, founder and head coach Ryan Diaz has invested millions into it's recent move to a new building, and is constantly pushing the boundary with just how far he can take Diaz Combat Sports within the city (he has recently expanded into other multi million dollar locations in Vancouver, with one new building being straight across the road from it's existing location).

A photo of Diaz Combat Sports from the World's best Martial Arts Super Gyms Blog Post

Coaching wise, there is a huge talent pool in both the resident coaches and staff at DCS.  Alongside Ryan, you will find the likes of Stuart Cooper, Christophe Vadijke, Master Song, Manny Sobral, Lamsongkram, Boom Watthanaya, Praise Vaughn and many more. Not only that but Ryan also regularly brings in guest coaches who will regularly stay from anything from a week to a few months, adding to an already hugely impressive line-up.

At their main 11,000 sq foot facility, located at 276 E Pender Street, you will find classes and private lessons in a wide of array of different martial arts and combat sports. These include Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Boxing, Jiu Jitsu and Wrestling.

I have even had the opportunity to coach at DCS myself personally on a couple of occasions. Each time, I am blown away by how many people train there on a regular basis. I had about 50 on the mats with me during each class, and that was just on one floor. Two other coaches had similar amounts of attendees upstairs and downstairs from me at exactly the same time!!

Vancouver itself is a beautiful place to visit. The BC city truly does showcase some of the best Canada has to offer with regards to nature, activities, food and people. It has now become one of my favourite places to visit and I am looking forward to going back there at some point in 2024 with my family!

You can learn more from Ryan no matter where you are located in the world by downloading his amazing full length instructional volume “MMA Striking Drills - Dominating the Stand Up Game”, which is featured on the Warrior Marketplace.

SBG Ireland

For anyone that follows MMA or enjoys watching UFC, the SBG Ireland gym is not going to be one you have not heard of. Global MMA superstar Conor McGregor calls this Dublin based gym home and has been fighting out of it now for the entirety of his career.

Owner, founder and head coach John Kavanagh is a well known, hugely respected and much sought after individual in his own right. The BJJ black belt was one of the first to gain this marker of elite level Jiu Jitsu within Ireland and has been one of the main trail blazing figures in MMA there for the past few decades.

A photo of SBG Ireland from the World's best Martial Arts Super Gyms Blog Post

I have visited John at SBG Ireland a number of times now over the past 8 years and it never fails to impress me how much he constantly pushes to improve. Not only with regards to his own coaching (I always see him on the mats helping fighters and giving them the benefit of his vast experience when I am there) but also with the quality of his facility, level of his instructors/fighters and overarching development of all the projects he is involved with.

SBG Ireland's main Dublin gym is located on Goldenbridge Industrial Estate in Inchicore. The monster, as it is often referred to, is just under 16,000 sq foot in size and more than deserving of its moniker. The facility is spread out over two floors, and includes a full size cage, huge matted areas, dedicated conditioning suite and much more.

Aside from Conor, there have been a multitude of world class fighters to come out of SBG Ireland since it's inception, including the likes of Artem Lobov, Aisling Daly, Cathal Pendred and Paddy Holohan. Visitors to the gym can expect to find access to high level training in MMA, Jiu Jitsu, Boxing, Kickboxing and Wrestling.

If you have never been to Dublin then you are really missing out. Well known for it's amazing nightlife and craic, the Irish capital has an abundance of great countryside surrounding it, historical locations of interest and activities to do. Not to mention the fact that the people there are some of the best you will find anywhere! I always love visiting Dublin (and Ireland) for this reason alone.

Don't take my word for it though! Check out some more of what makes SBG Ireland so special and why I have included it in this list of 12 of the World's Best Martial Arts Super Gyms you need to visit in 2024 by visiting their website and following them on their social media below.

Mjölnir

I am absolutely devastated to admit that I still have not managed to visit the truly outstanding Mjölnir in person yet.  I keep promising to myself every year, that this will be the year that I go.  I am hoping to break this cycle soon.  I cannot wait to go there in person.

If you are not familiar with Mjölnir, then boy are you in for a treat.  The Icelandic super gym is based in downtown Reykjavíc, and is by far and away, one of the most beautiful and impressive looking facilities you will ever come across.

A photo of Mjolnir from the World's best Martial Arts Super Gyms Blog Post

This 3000sqm gym boasts a full size MMA cage, boxing ring, stretching area, 6 halls for classes, children’s corner, locker rooms with a sauna, hot and cold tub, weight lifting and endurance training area, and much more.

Although its most well known fighter is arguably UFC signed grappling super talent and renowned BJJ black belt Gunnar Nelson, it is a gym cram packed with numerous international level athletes from the worlds of both combat and fitness related sports.

As you might expect from such a monstrous facility, their timetable is bursting at the seams with training sessions running from 6am in the morning till 10pm at night 7 days a week.  BJJ, MMA, Boxing, Kickboxing, Crossfit and much more are included in this vast schedule.

Given the city and country it is located in, you are also going to be spoilt for choice with regards as to what you want to do with your downtime.  Reykjavíc is well known for its bustling nightlife and is not far from some of the most breathtaking activities and scenery in the country.

Don't take my word for it though! Check out some more of what makes Mjölnir so special and why I have included it in this list of 12 of the World's Best Martial Arts Super Gyms you need to visit in 2024 by visiting their website and following them on their social media below.

Evolve MMA

I have had the utmost pleasure of having visited Evolve MMA in Singapore numerous times now over the past 8 years.  This world renowned chain of super gyms was founded by ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong in 2008, and since its inception has expanded to include what is now its present number of 5 facilities.  Each of which are located within Singapore.

The only chain of super gyms on this list with multiple locations.  Each facility could easily be classed as a super gym in its own right, even without the addition of the other centres.  Although there are some marked differences between each location, all offer an ultra modern lay out, high end decor/finish and top of the range matting, equipment and apparel.

A photo of Evolve MMA from the World's best Martial Arts Super Gyms Blog Post

If the facilities don't impress enough, it is the coaching team that potentially helps Evolve MMA shine the most.  Nearly 40 coaches cover the 5 full time locations.  Within this number are multiple times world champions in disciplines such as Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, BJJ, Wrestling and MMA.  It would be hard to find a more stacked coaching staff than this one.

As you can imagine, having this amount of coaches and five full time locations means Evolve MMA has a ridiculously huge timetable of classes available for members to train in.  No matter whether you are visiting for a one off session or training on an ongoing basis, you are going to find a class or schedule that works for you.

Evolve MMA has regular fight team sessions scheduled daily for its sponsored fighters (current and past members include the likes of UFC star Rafael Dos Anjos, ONE Championship world champion Angela Lee and BJJ phenom Mikey Musumeci).  These are typically closed to the general public but those with the relevant experience can sometimes gain access for training during their stay.

Singapore itself is a joy to visit.  It is very easy to get around the city centre and the country as a whole via its great public transport.  For those with downtime to fill outside of training, there is a ton of fantastic places to visit and brilliant activities to take part in.

Don't take my word for it though! Check out some more of what makes Evolve MMA so special and why I have included it in this list of 12 of the World's Best Martial Arts Super Gyms you need to visit in 2024 by visiting their website and following them on their social media below.

Jackson Wink MMA

I am sure that anyone reading this blog post who has been following the UFC for any length of time will have come across the name "Jackson Wink MMA".  The Albuquerque based super gym is world renowned as a result of the many elite fighters that have called it their home.

I had the immense pleasure of visiting Jackson Wink MMA and spending time there during a visit I made to the States in 2021.  To say I had my mind blown is an understatement.  This New Mexico based facility is huge.  The ground floor is made up of two very large training areas.  One is a large matted space and the other features two full sized cages.  Other areas on the ground floor include a reception and cafe, as well as zones for bags and ice baths.

A photo of Jackson Wink MMA from the World's best Martial Arts Super Gyms Blog Post

The top floor has a viewing platform that allows you to watch the action in the cages directly below, and features multiple live-in dormitory style rooms (for visiting fighters), a large communal space and a vast array of offices that each house a different medical specialist (the world famous Dr Beau Hightower is one such individual based here).

Coaches include the globally renowned founding duo of Greg Jackson and Mike Winkeljohn.  Both of whom are well regarded as two of the best in the business today.  Although Jackson Wink MMA is known as being one of the best professional facilities in the world, they also cater to and offer classes or training sessions for hobbyists, amateurs and juniors.  However, all training needs to be arranged in advance of visiting (no matter whether this is for one day or for any extended period of time).

The list of past and present Jackson Wink MMA fighters read like a who's who of the UFC, and include names such as Jon Jones, Holly Holm and Diego Sanchez.

New Mexico itself is a very cool place to visit and Albuquerque has beautiful mountain ranges nearby to get lost in should you have time on your hands outside of training.

Don't take my word for it though! Check out some more of what makes Jackson Wink MMA so special and why I have included it in this list of 12 of the World's Best Martial Arts Super Gyms you need to visit in 2024 by visiting their website and following them on their social media below.

Fairtex Training Center

Although I have known about the amazing Fairtex Training Center in Pattaya for many years, I did not have the chance to visit for the first time until earlier on this year.  It did not disappoint!  Located not far from the main beach in Pattaya, the frontage of the building is made up of a grand looking hotel and accompanying Fairtex shop.

When I visited, I stayed in the hotel (my visit there was kindly organised by well known author and Muay Thai figure Matt Lucas) itself.  Walk through the front entrance and lobby of the hotel, and you can gain access to the training center itself by walking through an extended corridor leading to the rear of the property.

A photo of Fairtex Training Center from the World's best Martial Arts Super Gyms Blog Post

As you walk through the corridor, you are able to gain an insight into just how big this facility is.  Leading off the hallway are multiple doors.  Each of which leads you to do a different training space.  On the right you will find a large strength and conditioning suite.  On the left you will find a large matted area for BJJ as well as a room dedicated entirely to the education of fighters (in terms of language, branding and social media).

Once you make it to the end, you will walk into a vast open plan space made up of multiple training zones.  A large bag area lies opposite a number of in-house Fairtex shops.  The main space is filled with 6 full size boxing rings that lie next to one another in a rectangular shape.  Off to the right lies another 3 full size boxing rings and at the back there is a full size cage.  Behind the cage is another large matted space surrounded by both bags and strength and conditioning equipment.

Although a number of Fairtex fighters compete in MMA, the real strength by which it is best known, is within its Muay Thai and striking brilliance.  Past champions include the likes of legendary Nak Muay Yodsanklai Fairtex, whilst the list of current standouts feature outstanding individuals such as ONE Championship super talents Stamp Fairtex and Smilla Fairtex.

Pattaya is known for its party scene so anyone visiting this area to train is not going to be short of things to do outside of training.  It is also only about 90 mins drive from Bangkok so heading over to the city centre is not out of the question either.

Don't take my word for it though! Check out some more of what makes Fairtex Training Center so special and why I have included it in this list of 12 of the World's Best Martial Arts Super Gyms you need to visit in 2024 by visiting their website and following them on their social media below.

CSA Gym

CSA Gym is located just outside of San Francisco, California and is a monster facility owned and ran by the outstanding head coach Kirian Fitzgibbons.  I have had the huge pleasure of spending time with Kirian at CSA and have witnessed first hand the high level of fighters that train there.

Upon arrival into the main reception area, you are immediately greeted with a full size cage as soon as you walk through the front door.  Go past this into the first main training area and you will then see a huge matted space on the right, with an equally large bag training area on the left.  Elevated at the back of the room is a large boxing ring.

A photo of CSA Gym from the World's best Martial Arts Super Gyms Blog Post

From this area, you walk straight through into an even bigger space dedicated entirely to strength and conditioning.  Crammed with about as much crossfit and functional strength training equipment as you will find anywhere.  Leading from this, you can go outside and find a huge outdoor space with a multitude of crossfit training rigs and other outdoor style training apparatus.

Adorning the walls are banners featuring a large number of both past and present fighters who have called CSA their home.  These include the likes of Kevin Ross, Henry Cejudo and Gaston Bolanos, who have each come out of their illustrious camp.

The gym is based in Dublin, which is about a 30-40 mins drive from San Francisco centre.  As such, the many great sights and activities located there are within easy reach for anyone wanting to mix training with spending time doing tourist type stuff.  I have done this journey a number of times both by public transport (the train can take you direct but does take nearer to the 90 mins mark) and by car.

Don't take my word for it though! Check out some more of what makes CSA Gym so special and why I have included it in this list of 12 of the World's Best Martial Arts Super Gyms you need to visit in 2024 by visiting their website and following them on their social media below.

Higher Level Martial Arts

Higher Level Martial Arts is the only British gym featured on this list.  The Scottish MMA powerhouse is located in Whitburn, which is located between Glasgow and Edinburgh.  Head instructor, founder and owner James Doolan is one of the busiest and most successful coaches in the game today.

His fighters can been seen competing regionally, nationally and internationally up to and including regular outings on elite level promotions such as UFC, ONE Championship, Bellator, PFL and EFC.

A photo of Higher Level Martial Arts from the World's best Martial Arts Super Gyms Blog Post

The gym itself is one massive open plan space.  A large matted area is separated from a small cage at the back and an adjoining large bag area via cage wall style fencing.  Around the outside of the main training spaces, you will find a great selection of strength and conditioning equipment, as well as a decent selection of other bags to work on.

The real strength of Higher Level lies within both its elite level coaching and its unparalleled ability to draw together the very best fighters for its many brilliant training sessions.  James has a no-nonsense approach to coaching and this style resonates amazingly with those that train with him in MMA, Muay Thai and BJJ.

Whitburn is a little bit off the beaten track.  As such, the local area offers only beautiful scenery and places to get lost in.  However, with Glasgow and Edinburgh both within easy reach, visiting fighters or those wanting to stay for longer will no doubt find many things to do outside of training.

You can learn more from James no matter where you are located in the world by downloading his amazing full length instructional volume “MMA Drills for Elite Level Fighters - Chaining Attacks”, which is featured on the Warrior Marketplace.

Tiger Muay Thai

Tiger Muay Thai is a gym that will likely need no introduction to you.  The Phuket based super gym is now known the world over as a result of its impressive rise over the past two decades.  Although initially known exclusively for its elite level Muay Thai, Tiger is now potentially even more well thought of now for its outstanding MMA, BJJ and S & C programs.

Like most Thai gyms, a good chunk of this massive facility is open plan and without walls.  It is a series of interconnected spaces and buildings that is more akin to a large school or mall than it is a typical small gym.  From the outside you are greeted with a large outdoor cafe area and shop.  Once you walk through the main door, you walk along a main path that takes you past huge training spaces on both the left and right (both are dedicated entirely to Muay Thai).

Following this, you reach a number of huge S & C dedicated spaces with a massive range of fitness, crossfit and functional strength equipment.  Next to these are a wide range of onsite apartments for those who wish to live at Tiger for the duration of their training camp.  Walk past these and you have a running track, and steps up to two more huge training spaces.  One is a large indoor mainstream fitness gym, the other is a beast of mat space dedicated entirely to MMA, wrestling and BJJ.  In this space there is a large cage at the back of the room and a decent sized ice bath/pool adjoining it at the side.

As you might expect from such a monster facility, there is a massive assortment of coaches who come together to make sure the gym functions and runs at such a high level.  These include multiple Rajadamnern and Lumpinee champions in Muay Thai, alongside numerous world renowned MMA, BJJ and S & C athletes and instructors.

The Soi (Thai for road) that Tiger is located on has literally grown around the gym as it has become more and more popular.  As a result, the local area is renowned for its unique vibe, amenities and activities.  All of which have come about with visiting fighters, athletes and tourists in mind.  Phuket itself is an amazingly beautiful place so there is no end of things to do outside of training.

I had my last visit and stay at Tiger Muay Thai organised by the amazing Muay Thai Holidays.  They took care of everything from the flights through to transfers and training packages.  I cannot recommend them enough!

Tristar Gym

I have to admit, Tristar is second of only two gyms on this list that I have not visited as of yet.  It is on my personal must-visit list for 2024.  I do however keep in contact with the globally renowned Canadian MMA super gym on a regular basis via social media.  I have spent time with two of its most famous alumni, in the shape of Georges St-Pierre and Kenny Florian, so I know just how brilliant the coaching is on offer here.

Head coach Firas Zahabi is known across the world as the main driving force behind the UFC legend that is GSP.  It is clear that Firas is not only an exceptionally gifted instructor, he also has a phenomenal eye when it comes to developing MMA fighters from the ground up.

The gym itself, like most facilities on this list, is made up of a huge matted space, complimented by an adjoining full size cage and a host of additional training equipment including bags, S & C apparatus etc.

Aside from the two fighters already mentioned, David Loiseau, Miguel Torres and Yves Jabouin are three other exceptional talents have been trained within the Tristar system.  Founder Conrad Pla and Firas lead a dedicated team made up of various elite level coaches to ensure that all those that visit for fight camps or who are based there, gain access to world class training in every area.

Montreal is a beautiful city with a wide range of places to visit and activities to do.  Anyone visiting Tristar or based within the area is not going to be short of things to do outside of training.

Don't take my word for it though! Check out some more of what makes Tristar Gym so special and why I have included it in this list of 12 of the World's Best Martial Arts Super Gyms you need to visit in 2024 by visiting their website and following them on their social media below.

Bangtao Muay Thai and MMA

Bangtao Muay Thai and MMA may well be the youngest gym on this list in terms of years it has been open.  However, what it lacks in age, it more than makes up for in experience, facility and aspirations.  This Phuket based super gym has its sights firmly set on being the largest of its kind in the world.  Given how far they have come in such a short space of time, it is hard to doubt that they will achieve it.

Similarly to other Thai based gyms on this list, a large number of the training buildings and spaces making up this monster facility are both open plan and without walls.  This, alongside the brilliant layout, decor and high standard of finish, gives this gym a truly unparalleled look, vibe and feel.  Walking up the drive, you will find your first huge training space on your left.  This is a large matted space where most of the BJJ, Wrestling and MMA sessions take place.

Past this, you will be facing a shop, office and cafe area, closely followed by another duo of large training spaces.  One of which is dedicated entirely to S & C.  The other has a multitude of ice baths and is aimed more at fitness/wellbeing.  At the end of the path, you will find the largest of all the spaces currently in use at the gym.  This fully matted area is the home to two full size rings, a huge variety of bags and all of the Muay Thai classes that take place at Bangtao.

The coaches and staff at this hugely impressive gym include the likes of über manager Will Elliott, Wrestling/MMA coaches George and Frank Hickman, BJJ coach Alex Schild and S & C expert Andrew Wood.  Muay Thai standouts Ajarn Wat, Sam-A, Lerdsila and Savvas Michael make up just a small number of the striking brilliance to be found training and coaching on these mats as well.

Fighters from all over the world have been flocking to train at Bangtao since it first openend and include the likes of Alex Volkanovski, Brendan Loughnane, Molly McCann and Tyson Fury.  It is not hard to see why.  Not only is Bangtao a phenomenal gym, the surrounding area in Phuket is absolutely stunning.  The facility is a short walk from one of the most beautiful beaches in the area.  Lots to see and do for anyone visiting and wanting quality time outside of training.

I had my last visit and stay at Bangtao Muay Thai & MMA organised by the amazing Muay Thai Holidays.  They took care of everything from the flights through to transfers and training packages.  I cannot recommend them enough!
